Soft
Glass Rings with Stacy Frost.
CLASS #SF-01
Skill
Level: Intermediate

In
this workshop you will learn to effectively use big-hole mandrels to
make stunning glass rings! I will show you tricks to getting your
initial footprint of glass around the mandrel evenly, and how to fix
it if it isn’t, how wide and thick a ring you can get away with for
maximum wearability and a variety of whimsical decoration. I will
also discuss proper cleaning and finishing so your rings will be beautiful
both inside and out. Intermediate beadmaking skills a must.
Students
should bring glasses, pliers or tweezers, a graphite marver,
some sort of poker (a sharpened mandrel will do) and any tools you use
in your normal lampworking practice. In addition, you will need
to bring big-hole mandrels, either of your ring sizes or at least large
enough to practice and take home the techniques taught in class.
Please pre-mark your mandrels so that we will be able to tell them apart
as I will be taking them in advance of class to dip them in bead release
to insure that they will be dry by the time class begins. I find
that colored electrical tape wrapped around the base of the mandrel
(no “flags” as they will not stick into foam) or nail-polished ends
are very effective.

my favorite tools for making glass into this exciting and satisfying
decorative addition to your beads, or finished product. Intermediate
beadmaking skills helpful, beginning skills a must.
Students
should bring glasses, pliers or tweezers, a graphite marver, some sort
of poker (a sharpened mandrel will do) and any tools you use in your
